LCC Senior's Programs

Senior Outreach:
Demographically Linnton has a somewhat larger proportion of seniors than other parts of Portland. Some of our seniors attending our programs live in other areas of Portland but still feel connected to Linnton and turn to LCC to meet some of their needs.

Seniors are at a time in their lives where great losses are experienced. We feel part of our job is to keep contact with seniors and help them throughout difficult times, encouraging socialization, and preventing isolation.

We make every attempt to see that all of their basic needs are met. It is well documented that depression can be a major problem in the lives of seniors. We see our role at LCC as proactive in keeping these seniors engaged in life. 

Senior Lunch Program & Potluck :
Held in the gym at noon on the Fourth Wednesday of every month except for November & December, it is held on the third Wednesday.

This is meant for people that come from all areas to meet with old friends and socialize. Some were born & raised in Linnton. All have a special connection with Linnton. Some still live here. Occasionally people fly in from other parts of the country to come “home” to the place of their childhoods and reconnect with their past. This event is usually well attended. Sometimes people that haven’t been “home” to the Linnton Community Center for more than fifty years show up. Different people often fill the chairs each month, but the chairs always seem to fill. To attend just show up. Linnton Community Center provides the main dish , service ware, condiments, coffee, punch & bread.
